Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Hosea Kutako International Airport to Naankuse Wildlife Sanctuary

Welcome to Namibia, the start of an adventure you will never forget. Your guide will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall with your name on a signboard. Once your luggage is loaded into the vehicle, we set off on a short 45 minute drive to our first lodge near the airport. If we are lucky, we may spot our first wildlife along the road.

Depending on when you arrive, we enjoy a sundowner game drive on the neighbouring Zannier Reserve. Evening game drives reveal the quiet beauty of the savannah as it comes to life at dusk. With a bit of luck, we may see a wide range of wildlife, including rhinos, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, leopards, ostriches, black-backed jackals, warthogs, and many antelope and birds. We then enjoy our first dinner together, share the day’s sightings, and rest up for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Naankuse Wildlife Sanctuary to Sossusvlei

We meet for breakfast at 8:00 am and talk through the plans for the day. After a hearty Namibian breakfast, we make our way toward our next destination. We stop often along the way to take photos of the beautiful scenery. Mid-morning, we pause for a coffee break at a perfect lookout point to take in the wide open Namibian views.

If time allows, we stop for the famous apple pie in Solitaire, a true Namibian tradition you should not miss. This drive takes about 4 to 5 hours. We arrive at our lodge near the Sesriem entrance gate in time to watch a beautiful sunset and enjoy some drinks while we plan tomorrow’s early start. Set inside the Namib-Naukluft National Park, the largest conservation area in Africa, Sossusvlei is one of Namibia’s most stunning and best-known attractions.

Day 3: Sossusvlei

We rise before sunrise to get ready for our Sossusvlei visit. After a quick cup of coffee or tea, we wait for the park gates to open, which happens at sunrise. We then drive for about 30 minutes as the sun rises over the amazing red dunes. The dunes here are some of the tallest in the world, reaching almost 400 metres, and they offer wonderful photos in the soft morning and evening light.

If you feel adventurous, you can climb the dunes, slide down them, or take a brisk walk to Deadvlei. You will have plenty of time to enjoy the many highlights around Sossusvlei. Halfway through, we take a break for a picnic breakfast while we soak in the landscape. After a full morning of activity, we return to the lodge for lunch and some free time. Late in the afternoon, we join a sundowner drive from the lodge.

Day 4: Sossusvlei to Swakopmund

This morning, we enjoy a relaxed breakfast, and for those who are keen, there is the option of an early morning balloon ride (please ask us about this option). We then make our way slowly to our next stop, the seaside town of Swakopmund. We stop again along the way for a coffee break and more photos of the ever-changing scenery.

We arrive in Swakopmund in the late afternoon, with time to settle in before we meet for sundowner drinks and dinner at one of the many wonderful restaurants in town.

Day 5: Swakopmund

We wake to another beautiful Namibian sunrise and enjoy our coffee while we get ready for the morning’s adventure. After breakfast, you are picked up for your Living Desert Adventure, a fun and easy way to discover the small creatures that survive in the dunes.

You return to the hotel around 1:00 pm, and after lunch, we head to Walvis Bay. Here we marvel at the thousands of water birds that call the Walvis Bay Lagoon home. We then head back to Swakopmund to enjoy our last Namibian sunset and dinner at one of the town’s restaurants. Swakopmund also offers many optional activities you can add, such as scenic flights, quad biking, fat bike tours, horse riding, skydiving, and catamaran cruises. Please ask us if you would like to try any of these.

Day 6: Departure

This morning, after a relaxed breakfast and maybe some last souvenir shopping, we make our way back to Windhoek, where we drop you off at Hosea Kutako International Airport for your flight home. You can also extend your tour to Etosha National Park or the Caprivi, so please ask us about these options. We hope to welcome you back to Namibia again soon.

Namibia travel essentials

Namibia is good to visit all year round. The dry season, from May to October, is the best time to see wildlife. The land is dry, so animals come to the waterholes and are easy to spot. Days are warm and sunny, but mornings and nights can be cold. The green season, from November to April, is hotter and brings some short rains. It is quieter, the land turns green, many baby animals are born, and prices are often lower.

Most visitors now need a visa to enter Namibia. Since 1 April 2025, travellers from most countries must get one. You can get a visa on arrival at the main airport and border posts, or apply online before you travel using the Namibian e-Visa system. The fee is about 90 US dollars (around N$1,600). Children under 6 do not pay. A tourist visa lets you stay for up to 90 days. We suggest you apply online at least one week before your trip to avoid long queues. Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months and have two or more blank pages. Please check the latest rules for your own country before you fly, and we are happy to help.

Most visitors do not need any required vaccines. The only special case is yellow fever. You need a yellow fever certificate only if you are coming from, or passing through, a country where yellow fever is a risk. It is a good idea to be up to date on your normal vaccines, and many doctors also suggest hepatitis A and typhoid. The north of Namibia, including Etosha, has a malaria risk, mostly in the wet months. Malaria tablets are a good idea for this area. Please see your doctor or a travel clinic about 6 weeks before you travel for advice that is right for you.

Most visitors fly into Hosea Kutako International Airport. Its airport code is WDH. It is the main international airport and sits about 45 km east of Windhoek, the capital. The drive into the city takes about 45 minutes. For trips to the coast, you can also use Walvis Bay Airport. We can meet you at the airport and arrange your transfer. Good to know: the local money is the Namibian Dollar (N$), and English is the main language, so it is easy to get around.

Pack light clothes in soft, natural colours like brown, green and beige for game drives. Bring a warm jacket or fleece too, because mornings and evenings can be very cold, even in summer. Other useful items are a sun hat, sunglasses, strong sunscreen, insect repellent, comfortable closed shoes, swimwear, and a refillable water bottle. Do not forget your camera, binoculars, any personal medicine, and a plug adapter. Namibia uses 220 to 240 volts, with type D and type M plugs. A small torch and a light scarf for dust are handy as well.
