An Etosha safari takes you to Etosha National Park in northern Namibia, the top wildlife park in the country. The park is built around the Etosha Pan, a huge white salt pan. In the dry season, elephants, lions, rhinos, giraffes, zebras and springbok gather at the waterholes, so they are easy to see. Etosha is about 5 hours by road from Windhoek.
What is included
- Private guide and 4×4 safari vehicle
- Game drives between the main waterholes
- Nights inside the park or at a lodge near the gates
- Visit to the edge of the Etosha Pan
- Park entry fees
Where you go
- Okaukuejo: A camp with a floodlit waterhole, known for black rhino at night.
- Halali: The middle of the park, with the Moringa waterhole.
- Namutoni: The east side, close to Fischer’s Pan and good bird life.
- Onguma and Ongava: Private reserves on the park border with their own game drives.
Best time to go
May to October is the best time for an Etosha safari. The bush is dry and animals stay close to the waterholes. The green season from December to April has newborn animals, many birds and fewer people.
Price and how to book
Etosha safaris start at 3 days from Windhoek. Longer trips add Sossusvlei, Swakopmund and Damaraland. See our Etosha safaris below for current prices.

Etosha Safaris FAQs
How many days do I need in Etosha?
Plan for 2 to 3 nights. This lets you explore the south and east of the park and visit more waterholes.
Can you see the Big Five in Etosha?
Etosha has elephants, lions, leopards and rhinos. It has no buffalo, so you see four of the Big Five.
Is Etosha good for a self-drive safari?
Yes. Roads inside Etosha are good, and you can drive yourself between the waterholes. A guide helps you find more animals.
