About Namibia

Namibia is a country in the south west of Africa. You can visit at any time of year. People come for the desert, the wild animals, and the great road trips you can drive yourself. The country is safe and calm, most of it has no malaria, and it is easy to get around. It is one of the best and easiest places in Africa for a holiday. Here are the main things to know before you plan a Namibia trip.

Most people stay for 7 to 14 days. A normal trip puts together the sand dunes at Sossusvlei, the animals in Etosha National Park, and the coast at Swakopmund. You can drive yourself or go with a private guide.

Namibia travel FAQs

Yes. Namibia is seen as one of the safest and calmest countries in Africa to travel in. It is set up well for tourists, crime is low in tourist areas, and the roads are good.

Yes, most visitors now need a visa. Since 1 April 2025, people from most countries must get one. You can apply online for an e-Visa before you travel, or get a visa when you arrive at the main airports and borders. The fee is about US$90. The rules are still changing, so always check what you need for your own country before you book.

One week is enough to see the main sights: Sossusvlei, Swakopmund and Etosha. With 10 to 14 days you can also add Damaraland, the Skeleton Coast or the south, at a slower pace. Most first trips to Namibia are 7 to 14 days.

The dry season, from May to October, is the best time to see animals and has the clearest skies. September is often the best month. The green season, from November to April, has lovely views, lots of birds and lower prices.

It depends on how you travel, the time of year, and how long you stay. A self-drive trip in small guesthouses costs much less than a guided holiday in fancy lodges. Tell us your dates and what you like, and we will send you a price made just for your trip.

The middle and south of Namibia, including Sossusvlei, the Namib and the coast, have no malaria. The far north (Etosha and the Zambezi Region) has some malaria at certain times of year. We will tell you how to stay safe on your route.

Namibia is one of the best places in Africa to drive yourself. A trip with a private guide takes away the planning and adds local know-how. We can set up either one, or a mix of both.

Yes. Namibia goes well with Botswana, Victoria Falls (in Zimbabwe or Zambia) and Cape Town. We plan trips to more than one country all the time.
