Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Windhoek to Sossusvlei
Your desert adventure begins in Windhoek as we travel south into some of the most beautiful scenery in Namibia. Sit back and enjoy wide views of the Khomas Highlands and the famous Namib Desert along the way. We stop in the small town of Solitaire for a light lunch and a slice of its well-known apple pie, a favourite stop for travellers crossing the desert. We reach Sesriem Campsite in the late afternoon and help you settle into camp. As the day ends, you can watch the sun set over the dunes before we serve a tasty campfire dinner under a sky full of stars. It is the perfect start to your Sossusvlei tour.
Day 2: Explore Sossusvlei and Deadvlei
Today is the highlight of your trip. We set off before sunrise to enter the Namib-Naukluft National Park while the air is still cool and the light is soft and golden. We drive deep into the desert to reach Dune 45, one of the most photographed sand dunes in the world. As the sun rises, the dunes glow in deep shades of red and orange, giving you a view you will never forget. If you feel up to it, you can climb to the top of Dune 45 for wide views across an endless sea of sand.
From there, we continue deeper into the desert to Sossusvlei, a huge salt and clay pan ringed by some of the tallest dunes on earth. This area is famous for its bold and almost unreal beauty. You will have time to explore the sand and learn how plants and animals survive in this dry land. Close by is Deadvlei, an old white clay pan dotted with dark, dead camelthorn trees. They stand out sharply against the white ground and the red dunes behind them. Some of these trees are more than 900 years old, which makes this one of the most striking sights in all of Africa.
Day 3: Sandwich Harbour Trip and Return to Windhoek
After an early breakfast, we set off on a scenic drive of 4 to 5 hours to Walvis Bay, passing more amazing desert views along the way. Here you join an exciting 4×4 trip to Sandwich Harbour inside the Namib-Naukluft National Park, where giant dunes drop right down to the Atlantic Ocean. Feel the thrill of dune driving and enjoy some of the best coastal views in the country. We then serve a picnic lunch among the dunes, so you can take in this special place at your own pace.
After all the excitement, we begin the 4 to 5 hour drive back to Windhoek, arriving in the evening to close off a trip you will remember for years to come.
